Pediatrics Mia K. Weinberg offers natural remedies that complement the pediatric care that your child receives. Each treatment is tailored for your child’s comforts and constitutional needs. Through pediatric acupuncture, Shoni Shin (non-invasive acupressure), massage, dietary/nutritional support and baby friendly herbs we can help parents address the treatment and management of common childhood illnesses and complaints. The key to successful pediatric chinese medicine treatments is "less is better.” The beauty is its simplicity, gentleness, and effectiveness.

What is Shonishin and pediatric acupuncture? Pediatric Chinese medicine primarily uses “Shonishin,” a specialized form of treatment for infants and children. Shoni Shin directly translated as “Children's needle” was developed in Japan in the mid-1700s in the Osaka region and remains popular today.

Shoni Shin involves light scraping of the skin along the meridians using a smooth edge tool, such as the edge of a shell. It can also include massage, herbal and nutritional recommendations and very light acupuncture. Children are more sensitive and respond quicker with lighter stimulation than adults.

Once children have experienced Shoni Shin they often look forward to future treatments and the office visits become a special space and routine just for them.

What age should I bring in my child? Because most of the habits we have as adults began to develop at a very early age, the introduction of holistic and preventative therapies early in childhood can establish healthy routines and a strong foundation. Children of all ages, from newborns to adolescents, benefit from regular Shoni Shin and acupuncture treatments.

Children’s personalities, constitutional tendencies and predispositions to ailments begin to develop at a very early age. Learning how to recognize a child’s individual strengths and respect their limitations can empower both parents and children to successfully manage their individual health needs in the future.
